Supercharge Your Glow with Skin Boosters and Skin Healers

Happy new year and we hope your 2020 will be a bright and smooth-sailing one! Depending on your current skin condition and the anti-ageing outcome you seek, there are two main categories of age-reversing facial injections you can look at — skin boosters and skin healers. Both can help you achieve youthful-looking skin in different ways.

SKIN BOOSTERS:
MAXIMUM HYDRATION AND GLOW

WHAT ARE THEY?

Skin boosters are modified hyaluronic acid dermal filler injections such as Juvederm Volite and Teosyal Redensity. Unlike conventional dermal filler treatments that lift or enhance facial features, these micro-injections are inserted superficially into the skin.

UNDERSTANDING HYALURONIC ACID

Hyaluronic acid is an extremely powerful water binding agent — it can attract and retain water up to 1000 times its molecular weight. This is why skin boosters can dramatically plump up skin moisture levels and generate dewy, radiant skin that feels firmer and smoother.

I find this treatment best suited for those with extremely dry, dehydrated skin, a dull and ashen complexion, as well as rough textured skin with fine lines and wrinkles.

SKIN HEALERS:
AGED AND DAMAGED SKIN REPAIR

WHAT ARE THEY?

Skin healers are micro-injection treatments such as Rejuran and Polydeoxyrinbonucletides (PDRN) that are excellent for rejuvenating aged and sun-damaged skin. They increase elasticity and collagen synthesis so skin is firmer, smoother, has tighter pores and fewer lines and wrinkles. Skin healers can also be used to remodel and heal acne scars and alleviate allergic skin conditions like eczema.

PDRN

Known as DNA fragments from highly purified and sterilised salmon germ cells, PDRN closely resembles human DNA and is biocompatible to our skin.

Benefits include fibroblast stimulation (for increased collagen production), reduced inflammation, and better blood circulation.

When injected into skin, PDRN breaks down into DNA building blocks — polynucleotides (PNs) — to rebuild damaged DNA. The increase in DNA synthesis also contributes to greater tissue regeneration and faster healing.

Compared to skin boosters, skin healers do not work by supplementing a skin component. Instead, they work on a cellular level to encourage skin to produce essential components such as collagen and hyaluronic acid to biologically repair the skin from within. It is often common to combine skin boosters and healers or use them with lasers and peels to address multiple skin health issues simultaneously.
